Dr Flavia Maximo (Professor of labour law, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto) on 20 September 2023 will kick off our series of Panoptiwork Talks. From 17.00 onwards, in the Diephuiszaal (Rolinggebouw, Oude Boteringestraat 18) Professor Maximo will introduce her research on decoloniality and labour law, with some examples coming from the relationship between the Global South and the data economy. Who is the epistemic subject of labour law? What kind of life does it shelter? The disjuncture between labour law’s epistemology and the lived work experiences of many people – women, black, brown, indigenous persons, and those located in the ‘Global South’ – can be a reflection of a colonial project of power that remains in the data driven economy. So, how to decolonise labour law?
